Verrucae are viral skin infections on the soles of the feet that can become painful under pressure, build up thick overlying callus, and persist for years without targeted clinical intervention
Verrucae are common viral skin lesions and are particularly common in children and young people, although they can affect adults too. They can be new or longstanding, small or large, single or multiple, and may or may not cause discomfort.
At Aligned Foot Clinic Podiatry, we assess each verruca individually and recommend treatment based on its size, location, duration and your individual circumstances.
Verrutop – A Gentle Treatment Option: Verrutop is a topical treatment specifically designed for verrucae. It is a relatively gentle option and can be suitable for children and patients who prefer a less invasive approach. A course of approximately 4–8 treatments is commonly required, depending on how the verruca responds.
Silver Nitrate: A 95% silver nitrate preparation can be used for selected verrucae. Treatment may cause some short-lived burning or stinging, and the treated skin may temporarily turn dark or black as part of the treatment response.
Clinical Preparation: Where appropriate, we gently reduce the hard skin over the verruca before treatment, allowing the affected area to be assessed and treated accurately.
Swift® Microwave Therapy – Coming Soon: We are pleased to be introducing Swift microwave therapy to the clinic. Treatment takes only a few seconds and may cause a brief sensation of pain or discomfort during application.
As verrucae are particularly common in children, we provide a calm, gentle and child-friendly approach. Where appropriate, we may recommend gentler treatment options such as Verrutop.
Whether your verruca is new or longstanding, small or large, or you have multiple verrucae, our podiatrists can assess the problem and discuss the most suitable treatment options.
